We know that there is book magic that happens when purpose and passion collide with publishing expertise. That is precisely what happened when our founder created Valedictorian, our flagship book.
The Valedictorian Story is the exemplary example of taking a lesson that you have learned and gained from in your life; and turning it into a lesson shared with our youth through a powerful and impactful children’s book.
For a deeper dive into how our founder discovered the perennial best selling book within him, check out The Valedictorian Story. To find out more about how that experience lead to the creation of LodgeWell Publishing, check out the LodgeWell Publishing Story.
The Valedictorian Story
The Lodgewell Publishing Story
When I finished editing my manuscript and organizing my illustrations for Valedictorian, I immediately knew that I had something special. This trajectory-changing children’s book not only empowers students by explaining what a valedictorian is as early as possible, but it also inspires them to strive for academic excellence.
We’ve pinpointed two significant problems facing the youth in our underserved, marginalized minority communities. Follow along below as we break them down for you.
Representation Absolutely Matters
Children who feel left out of books risk feeling left out of life. As an exclusive children’s book publisher, we’ve identified two significant problems that we are disrupting for the greater good. Follow along below as we break them down for you.
THE 1st PROBLEM
There is a lack of diversity in children’s Books. Books with diverse characters enables Black, Hispanic, Asian, Native, and other marginalized students to see themselves and their experiences reflected on the page like a MIRROR.
MIRRORS
Mirrors Validates Existence, Affirms Value, and Empowers Our Youth

The Smaller The Percentage, The Smaller The WINDOW
The Power of The Mirror In Action
Here is a perfect example of why it is so important for our youth to see themselves in individuals who have faced similar hardships, and have emerged successfully from it.
When You Learn, You Should Teach
Because When You Teach, You Learn!
This dog is a true HERO, setting a powerful example for us all. Despite having reasons to be skeptical, the puppy learned through observation and determination that anything is achievable with focused effort and hard work. Inspired by its role model, the puppy realized, "If my new Hero can do it, then so can I!"—and indeed, the puppy succeeded.
Windows
Windows Bring Visibility to Cultures Not Like Their Own
Books that serve as WINDOWS are books in which readers get to see people not like themselves. These books help readers develop empathy for other communities, cultures, and experiences that they may not otherwise get to see.
It’s important that marginalized children aren’t the only ones reading and being exposed to these WINDOWS, because their lives are NOT the only ones that will be enriched by looking through them. Reading books that represent different abilities, cultures, beliefs, and skin colors help us change our attitude toward those differences. For example… Seeing bullying or injustice happen within the pages of a book can give a reader a new perspective on what’s happening in their own school or community. Validating their belief in their own importance and value as a member of society.
If we only see characters and experiences that reflect our own, we’re more likely to believe that our own experience is more important or valid than those that are not reflected.
Check out the new clip below that perfectly explains the importance of MIRRORS and WINDOWS.

THE 2nd PROBLEM
There needs to be more diversity within traditional publishing. Diverse authors provide uplifting stories of triumph that can empower diverse and marginalized communities coming from the same places as these authors. Plus, that also means that we are being locked out of a lucrative industry.
Take a look at our infographic below, as it effectively depicts the disparity.

WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT
If you have an impactful story within you that you’re considering sharing, remember that some of the most powerful stories often come from individuals who in the beginning… didn’t even know that their story was worthy of being told. Your story absolutely matters, and sharing it has historically been powerful and liberating. It will not only open doors for your readers but also for you as an author.
Creating authentic and unique stories has the potential to help people who look like you, and who came from the same place that you come from navigate challenges, and dismantle barriers of inequality, stereotypes, and bias. So, don’t hesitate any longer to share your story with those who it can help, because sharing your story is also monetizing your story.
According to the New York Times,“ 81% of Americans want to write a book… but less than , 1% actually see their work ever published.”
Why wait for the approval of gatekeepers, when you can invest in yourself? Let us help you find the perennial best seller within you!
WHAT WE’RE DOING ABOUT IT
Our approach involves two main strategies. First, we are committed to identifying, publishing, and distributing a wide range of high-quality diverse children’s books. Not just any children’s books, but children’s books specifically designed to EDUCATE, EMPOWER, & INSPIRE our youth to strive for excellence.
Second, our company was established to provide opportunities for minority authors to share their stories on their own terms without approval from traditional publishers. You are free to write and shape your story the way you envisioned it. In its true and most authentic form. There is no one telling you to mold your unique story to fit a certain narrative. When you hybrid publish with LodgeWell Publishing, the only people you need to answer to are yourself as a writer, and your readers as consumers.
